About This coach
Hello! My name is Amanda Merk. I'm a wife of 13 years, the mom of 3 boys (ages 2, 4, and 9), and step-mom of 1 girl (age 21). I am a certified parenting coach and have a degree in special education. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially outside. I love observing plants and wildlife in the little nuggets of time that I get to myself in this season of life.
I have worked with children in some capacity since I was very young. Babysitting regularly as a young girl, teaching classes at church, cadet teaching and being a teacher's assistant in high school, getting my college degree in special education, working in a variety of school settings as both a teacher's aide and a teacher, teaching English online to students in China, group camps, and providing community living support and respite care for several families who have children with special needs. In all of my years of growth, learning, and serving, nothing has taught me more about children than being a mother. As a mother who stays home, I view parenting as my current profession. I love learning and growing, and have studied child development, attachment science, and neuroscience. I love sharing that knowledge with others who are interested.
I love being a coach because I love helping families. In all of my years of helping children, it was always in a direct way. Over the years, I have developed the belief that one of the most effective ways I can actually help children is by helping parents. When parents are educated, empowered, connected, and regulated, children are better able to thrive and grow optimally.
At the end of our journey together, you will be able to orient yourself with greater clarity: understanding where you are, where you want to go, and how to move through parenting moments in a way that honors your values, your child(ren)’s individuality, and your own humanity along the way.
What Makes THEM Special?
I have experience in coaching parents of infants up through adult children. I have worked with individuals with disabilities and their families for 18 years in varying capacities. As a parent of a medically complex child, I have a heart for helping parents who may be having to navigate the medical system in the parent role.
