The birth of my daughter was a life changing moment for my husband and I, a blessing after several heartbreaking pregnancy losses. So there was an unsaid promise we made, that we would love her with all our being.

Leaving behind a successful career at that time, I decided to dedicate myself to motherhood, eager to provide my daughter with the love and care she deserved. Yet, despite the joy she brought, I struggled with a profound sense of loss. The societal expectations and sacrifices that came with motherhood felt overwhelming, leading to feelings of resentment and irritability, not just towards my daughter but in many aspects of my life.

While I kept looking for avenues to find happiness and joy, so that it could spill over into my personal life as well, it only intensified my stress.

My frustration often spilled over into my relationship with my daughter, and years passed. By the time she was eight or nine years old, our emotional connection had grown strained as I continued to express myself though control, anger and yelling.

One particularly challenging day, feeling defeated and disconnected, I even thought of giving up on rebuilding our relationship. A thought for a micro second was, "What if I just stop trying? And let her be on her own."

But, thankfully, a pivotal question stopped me in my tracks: If my daughter ever needed help, where would she turn? This realization ignited a deep pain and anguish within me. Followed by a commitment to change what I could—to create a secure, loving environment where my daughter would always feel safe and supported.

With renewed determination, I began seeking ways to transform our family dynamics. It seemed the Universe responded to my resolve, presenting opportunities for growth and learning better and new ways to parent.

I discovered Life Coaching Certification, Dr. Gabor Mate's Trauma Informed Methodology and Parent Coaching with the Jai Institute for Parenting. These experiences were transformative, helping me with tools and insights that began to reshape my family dynamics.

Although I am far from perfect, I have learned to navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and compassion. Our family now approaches problems as a team, prioritizing solutions that support our collective well-being. We understand that it’s not about “you versus me” but “us versus the problem,” guided by our values and mutual respect.

This journey, though complex and ongoing, has taught me the profound impact of commitment, empathy, and love. I share this story in the hope that it resonates with those seeking to strengthen their family connections. In the journey of a few years, I have supported parents in individual as well as group settings to achieve the Peace and Collaboration in their homes and there's nothing more important for me today than having the joy of knowing that there are many children who have parents who are ready to move mountains to give them a healthy future.

When I am not coaching I love to spend time with my family, my husband, daughter and two dogs. I love listening to music, meeting people and reading to forever learning.

With warm regards,

Jaspreet Chopra
