About This coach
Hi, I’m Jade. I was born in Mississippi and raised in California, the daughter of a Thai mother and a Norwegian father who grew up in South Africa. My parents met at university in California, and together, built a colorful, multicultural home—full of love, stories, and complexity.
Yet even with all their world experience and education, cultural differences often colored their perspectives in different ways. As a third-culture kid, I grew up feeling the richness—and the friction—of living between worlds.
I never fit perfectly into any one culture, but that in-between space gave me something powerful: the ability to see multiple perspectives, hold nuance, and build bridges between different ways of thinking.
After completing a PhD, I moved with my husband to northern Thailand, intending to spend a year or two volunteering with a nonprofit protecting children from trafficking. That “year or two” turned into nearly seven, and the work became a deeply meaningful career. I had the privilege of helping vulnerable children and families access resources to build resilience and protect themselves from exploitation.
Our son was born there, and his earliest memories are filled with sticky rice and Thai grilled meats. As he approached school age, we decided it was time to move to Berlin to be closer to my husband’s family and to access the amazing nature and cultural offerings available in Europe. But shortly after our move in 2017, our family was rocked by a profound and unexpected loss. Grieving while adjusting to a new country was overwhelming. It took years to regain our footing—and just as we began to feel settled, the pandemic hit.
Those years tested everything. Through grief, displacement, anxiety, neurodivergence, and major life transitions, the thread that held us together was our connection to one another. What carried us through was not perfection, but presence and open, honest communication.
As the world began reopening, I saw that many families in our international community were continuing to struggle. So many were overwhelmed, stretched thin, and unsure where to turn for support—especially without extended family nearby or strong social roots in place. That’s when I knew I wanted to offer something more intentional: a safe, nonjudgmental space for parents to feel heard, supported, and empowered.
That’s why I became a Parent Coach.
Through my training with the Jai Institute for Parenting, I learned evidence-based tools rooted in neuroscience and nonviolent communication. Their approach—centered around “empowered communication”—offers a way to move beyond rigid parenting models and build deep, respectful relationships that help both parent and child thrive.
This work has resonated with me and deepened my own family’s capacity to remain rooted in our values and grounded in our connection to each other. It’s strengthened our communication, deepened our resilience, and brought more joy into our everyday lives. And I believe it can do the same for yours.
What Makes THEM Special?
I've moved internationally twice and know what it's like to have to parent in a new country, navigating issues like neurodivergence, loss, grief, and more, without your village, native language, or roots around you. However, there once was someone in my life who offered me the gift of generous, patient listening—someone who would give me the space and time to process my thoughts without judgment or redirecting the conversation somewhere else. Since their passing, I’ve come to understand just how rare a gift that kind of support is. I feel deeply inspired to offer that same presence to others.
